I heard a story about Niarus from Twila Wilson, our premier interior designer. While Niarus was in college she got a grant to study Batik making in Indonesia. The natives did not frequently have the opportunity to meet such stunning spunky person of color before and because of her knobby hairstyle they mistook her for Tracy Chapman.
