Sorrel: Delicious Christmas Beverage
Sorrel has been grown in the West Indies for centuries. It is in season around Christmas/New Year’s and can be consumed hot or cold. This dark red tart cranberry-like flavor drink has always been a traditional seasonal drink on the island. Green sorrel can be fermented to produce wine.
The Health Benefits of Sorrel
Sorrel is used for reducing sudden ongoing pain and swelling and inflammation of the nasal passages and respiratory tract, for treating bacterial infections along with conventional medicines, and for increasing urine flow. It has been said that Sorrel contains anthraquinones and oxalates.
Sorrel is rich in vitamins A, B, and C. Some say it can make your hair healthy, strong. The nutrients and vitamins are necessary for dry and damaged hair. They also prevent and stop hair fall and treat baldness.
One important note: Since it is a natural blood thinner, sorrel drinks should be consumed in moderation.
