Valencio Jackson graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in St. Croix. After graduating from high school, Valencio continued his studies at the University of Delaware, receiving a B.A. degree in Music and Mathematics. He completed his Master of Music degree in Music Composition from Towson University in Baltimore, MD, and is currently completing requirements towards the Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
His chamber music has been performed throughout Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and New York. Valencio’s musical language is contemporary and lyrical in its expression and draws upon many traditions and styles in a continual search to effectively communicate. He has written chamber music for various ensembles, choral music, and large instrumental works.
Recently, Jackson had the opportunity to further help families like his own. At this year’s Annual Christmas Concert for Charity, he premiered an original composition. Proceeds raised at the concert were donated to Catholic Charities USA – Hurricane Relief. Jackson’s compositions include some influences from his native island. He typically composes classical chamber and choral music that is contemporary in style and harmonic language.
