Starry Night on St. Croix

Nighttime is always a special time whether we recognize it or not. When the evening comes, everyone winds down and “pack up shop.” Some go to the beach to get that last-minute swim before the beach closes and others get ready to start their night jobs. Yet one thing never changes. The starry night is always there. Whether we see it or not, it is extremely beautiful.

Some say observing the night sky is very therapeutic. There is nothing like listening to the ocean while stargazing. It allows us to relax, and lower our blood pressure. By taking deep breaths, it almost mimics a form of meditation but with your eyes open.

There are times when you can just look up and see billions of stars. Once in a while, a shooting star can be seen streaking across the sky. With no TVs, mobile devices, our ancestors have always been obsessed with the stars. They built great ancient structures to honor the stars, predict harvests, and make critical decisions for themselves and their communities. The stars have also been used to predict the future. The horoscope is based on the stars and planets.

Starry night skies are just another majestic wonder we can sometimes take for granted. It doesn’t cost you anything. It’s FREE! FREE! Just find a dark place when the night is clear, whether it’s on the roof of your car, your house, or your patio. Just look up and enjoy. Oh yeah… A glass of wine is an added plus.

interesting fact, you can see the space station in Frederiksted skies after sunset.
