Why am I here… in New York, Washington, DC, Texas, California, Alaska, Canada? This is the question I ask when it’s 24 degrees outside with snow on the ground, ice on the roads and not to mention COVID around every corner.
We leave the island for many different reasons. Some head off to college for higher education or the military. Some leave in search of better job opportunities while others leave due to boredom from the mundane, but the truly lucky ones only leave for vacations and shopping trips
When a former islander returns for vacation, they all have their special routine when they land on St. Croix. Mine consist of hitting Thomas Bakery, for some Tete bread, some roti from Singh’s, then it’s off to the beach. There is something to be said about deciding to reside on St. Croix. Most American mainlanders welcome the opportunity to leave the rat race just to spend a week on our island relaxing and enjoying all it has to offer… the sun, warmth, ocean, views, food, and most of all the people.
So for those who live on the island and visitors alike, slow down and appreciate “the little things” that we take for granted every day that makes St. Croix so special. Treasure these experiences that only exist here and nowhere else on the planet. Appreciate her, take care of her, love her. I love my island, I Love St. Croix.
Take a look at the photo gallery below. Between each photo, I kept on saying to myself….”It’s the little things” Thanks Charlene for the beautiful photos.
