Attorney Yvette Ross-Edwards is extremely excited about the upcoming Crucian Coconut Festival. How did it all start? We need to go back to 1997 when a group of farmers got together and decided to create an organization that truly reflected themselves. They were able to incorporate their organization a year and a half later. Now St. Croix Farmers in Action is a 501C organization on a mission to positively influence the agricultural development on our island. They believe that farmers and value-added producers have a lot to contribute to our economy among other goals. They are in the process of gaining funding for a processing plant and professional kitchen space. This in turn will allows value added products to be available outside of the Virgin Islands.
The big event happening this year is the Crucian Coconut Festival from December 3rd-5th, 2021 at the Bethlehem Sugar Factory. They’ve added the Coconut Fine Art Exhibit curated by Lucien Downes.
The entire event starts with the exhibit and ends with the festival. Participating vendors are being asked to feature at least one thing coconut. The YGT band, DJ music, Mocko Jumbies, as well as the Mon Bijou Steppers will be there to entertain us. There will be games and activities for children and adults, a craft center, cash prizes, and art exhibits. Ross-Edwards invites you to come on out and enjoy this year’s Crucian Coconut Festival and support your local farmers.
