Hans “Panchie” Larsen, who still looks very youthful at the age of 75 years, is referred to by many as the “King of Gallows Bay”. This title he deters, as he sheepishly chuckles saying, “I don’t know why people call me that because I don’t have a crown.” Panchie was born and raised in Gallows Bay and after 75 years, he is still a resident of this popular coastline area of Christiansted, St. Croix also known as “Bay Side.” He is the founder and Chef of Panchie’s, a haven located literally in his front yard. He began this venture in 1990 after Hurricane Hugo which grew over the years.
Locals, tourists, even local restaurant owners and celebrities from food shows have come to Panchie’s for its famous Callaloo and conch water. He also has an expanded menu with stew and fried fish, conch fritters, and banana fritters just to name a few. If you are ever in St. Croix, Panchie’s is an absolute MUST! Come to Gallows Bay and experience the authentic Bay Side Ting!
